Choosing the Right Character for Your Child

Picking the right character is more art than science. Here’s how to narrow it down.

For ages 2–4

Stick to soft, recognizable mascots (Mickey, Minnie, Winnie the Pooh, Minions). Costumed humans (princesses, superheroes) can scare some toddlers — even ones who LOVE them on screen. Mascots are visually softer.

For ages 4–7

Princesses (Elsa, Anna, Cinderella) and gentle superheroes (Spider-Man, Iron Man) work beautifully. They sing, take photos, lead games. Stay away from villains at this age — Maleficent is impressive but can flip a sensitive kid into tears.

For ages 7–10

Higher energy needed. Multiple characters work better than one. Avengers Squad, Princess Trio, Paw Patrol crew. Or pick a niche character your specific kid is obsessed with right now (Chase, Mario, Sonic).

For ages 10+

Characters need to be ‘cool’, not ‘cute’. Think Ladybug, Spider-Man, Sonic, Mario. Keep the visit shorter (20–30 min) — older kids prefer interactive shows or workshops over mascot meet-and-greet.

Mixed-age parties

Pick two contrasting characters: one princess + one superhero. Boys and girls of all ages have someone to gravitate to.
