About Candle Making

A grown-up feeling craft made safe for kids. Each child chooses a scent and color, watches us prepare the wax, then helps pour it into a glass jar with their wick. We add dried flowers, glitter or layers for decoration.

The choosing takes longer than you’d expect, and that’s the point. There’s a scent tray to work through — vanilla, lavender, citrus, rose, pine, fresh linen and a few seasonal favorites — and kids take it seriously, sniffing each one twice before committing. Then the color palette, then the question of whether to do one solid pour or layer two shades that meet in a soft line halfway up the jar.

The pouring step is always done by our trained instructors — kids assist but don’t handle hot wax directly. They hold the wick straight, watch the wax go from cloudy to clear to cloudy again, and get the satisfying moment of seeing their color settle into something real.

Wax cools while kids decorate the jar with stickers, ribbons or paint. It’s a good stretch of quiet, focused time — around an hour from start to finish — and we’ve noticed it works on kids who usually can’t sit still for anything. There’s something about waiting for your own candle to set.

They take home a finished, ready-to-light candle with a personalized label. Most of them end up gifted — to grandmas, to teachers, to the parents who booked the party. Weeks later they still smell exactly as they did on the day, which is the part that surprises people.
